The photo collection in the museum was based on the following: József Plohn’s series called Romanian soldiers destroying the local high school's warehouse, photo series on the ethnographic exhibition of 1928 shot by Viktor Till, the photographic tableaux of the Craftmen’s Society, the Craftmen’s Corporation and the Craftwomen's Association between 1907 and 1939, and the large portraits of the Bureau members. The photographic tableaux and portraits were made by well-known local photographers: József Plohn, Viktor Till, Béla Fodor and Aranka Till. Beside these portraits, József Plohn and Viktor Till also made series of Hódmezővásárhely depicting the life and the surrounding area. The first local photo studio was founded by Illés Plohn, who took photographs of citizens of Hódmezővásárhely at the end of the 19th century. Over time, artists like Gyula Veress, Andor Tapasztó and Lajos Schnitzer, who lived for a longer or shorter period in Vásárhely, also handed over their works to the museum.
The city’s vibrant artistic life is well reflected by the many portraits and tableaux depicting for example János Tornyai, János Pásztor, Béla Endre, Gyula Rudnay, István Darvassy, Jenő Barcsay, György Kohán and artists who later settled here.
